WHAT WE KNOW:
Ryan Howard has been around K-State football for the last four seasons. Seeing his brother, Will, break records over his career in purple, Ryan is no stranger to Manhattan. Having camped at Kansas State multiple times, Howard will be comfortable and should have a good relationship with the coaching staff. Having been around him as well, the staff also understands that Howard could develop into a nice player but likely needs some seasoning first.
WHAT WE DON’T:
What will Howard’s body look like upon entering a college program? Already topping 300 lbs. Howard’s body may need a year to work with strength coach Tru Carroll before he is ready to contribute, but what will he look like then? How will the speed come along for the big lineman after a year of training as well? Much of Howard’s development hinges on his work in the weight room.
SCOUTS SAY:
“Standing at 6-foot-7, 300 pounds, Howard is a true tackle. He pass-sets extremely well using brute strength and dominated opponents last fall. Howard plays both left and right tackle and likely slots in the same spots at Kansas State. One part of his game that could use fine-tuning is Howard’s footwork which is less than extraordinary. A lot of the struggles with footwork have to do with his size. His film shows pulling from the tackle spot and Howard can move for a big man.” — Cole Carmody, GoPowercat
