Latest Aston Villa injury news from BirminghamLive as Unai Emery prepares his side for the Europa Conference League second leg clash with Hibernian
Aston Villa host Hibernian on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tie.
Unai Emery’s side have a five-goal advantage after winning 5-0 at Easter Road last Wednesday, which followed a 4-0 victory against Everton at Villa Park. They come into this second leg on the back of a 3-1 win at Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Ahead of Villa’s clash with Hibs on Thursday, Emery will be without several players including Philippe Coutinho, Alex Moreno, and Jacob Ramey, while Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia are long-term absentees.
Emi Martinez
Martinez was substituted at half-time in the 5-0 win over Hibs last week due to a calf injury, and subsequently missed the clash at Burnley.
What Emery has said: “A few days he is going to be ready again. I don’t know exactly for Thursday, I don’t know exactly for Sunday. It’s very important to give other players chances and opportunities today, like with Robin Olsen.”
Possible return date: Liverpool (September 3)
Leander Dendoncker
Dendoncker missed pre-season, but is due to return to training this week.
What Emery has said: “Now, hopefully on Monday (August 28) he will start to train again with the group, hopefully he is going to keep consistent for a long time because I think he can help us.”
Possible return date: Unknown
Alex Moreno
Moreno sustained a hamstring injury in the draw with Liverpool back in May and required surgery. He could return to training within the next fortnight.
What Emery has said: “Alex Moreno is close to being part of us.”
Possible return date: Crystal Palace (September 16)
Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Everton and hobbled off the pitch not long after coming on as a substitute in the second half.
What Emery has said: “I think it’s not a big injury, it’s a hamstring. We have to wait for tomorrow when the doctor analyses. Hopefully in two or three weeks he will be available again.”
Possible return date: Crystal Palace (September 16)
Jacob Ramsey
Ramsey broke a metatarsal while on international duty with England Under-21s earlier this summer.
What Emery has said: “Jacob Ramsey is still some weeks to come back with us.”
Possible return date: Crystal Palace (September 16)
Tim Iroegbunam
Iroegbunam also missed the club’s tour of the USA through injury, but did feature in the draw with Walsall last month.
Possible return date: Unknown
Tyrone Mings
Mings sustained a serious knee injury in the first half of the 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday. He will undergo surgery.
What Emery has said: “This week is very sad for us. With Emiliano Buendia, today with Tyrone Mings. We lost today but there was something that was more than we wanted but the worst today was the injury with Tyrone. We have to take some days in reflection and then prepare for the game against Everton.
Possible return date: Unknown (long-term)
Emi Buendia
Buendia also suffered a significant knee injury last week, in training on Wednesday.
What Emery has said: “It’s the worst thing in football for the player, for the club, for us and his teammates. In the last action of training yesterday, he was injured and he’s now visiting the doctors. It is a ligament concern.”
Possible return date: Unknown (long-term)
