Three key men joins Wakefield Trinity for 2024…..

Off-contract Wigan Warriors veteran joins Wakefield Trinity for 2024 as Daryl Powell’s first signing

Iain Thornley, an experienced free agent who left Super League champion Wigan Warriors for Belle Vue on a one-year contract, has officially signed with Wakefield Trinity.

Prior to the 2022 season, the center, who had played for his hometown Wigan FC’s youth, rejoined the Cherry and Whites from the Leigh Leopards.

Over the past two years, Thornley—a former England Academy standout—has been a benchwarmer for Matt Peet’s team, making just 13 appearances overall, including just four this year. Nonetheless, he did start the Warriors’ victory in the Challenge Cup final against the Huddersfield Giants last year, which saw Peet win his first trophy as team captain.

With 198 rugby league outings under his belt and a stint in rugby union at the beginning of his career, Thornley, 32, has made plays for both Barrow Raiders and Oldham this season while on loan. With Trinity, he will now have the chance to reach the 200-mark.

The West Yorkshire team, who had previously played for Wigan, Hull KR, Catalans Dragons, and Leigh, are now the sixth league team he has been a regular presence at.

Along with the two teams he will wear a shirt for in 2023, there have also been periods on loan or dual registration at South Wales Scorpions, Leigh, Workington Town, and Salford Red Devils.
