two wakefield trinity star players are suspended to a fight……

Danny Brough and Danny Sculthorpe were suspended by Wakefield

Week’s suspension for pair linked with moves
Warrington’s Penny goes on loan to Widnes

Wakefield has suspended Danny Brough and Danny Sculthorpe for one week, making them unavailable for this Sunday’s Super League match against Huddersfield. The pair are understood to have committed a minor breach of club rules after last Sunday’s 24–17 defeat at Harlequins.

Brough and Sculthorpe’s suspensions will run from Monday, 18 May until Monday, 25 May. Both started in the defeat at The Stoop and have both been linked with moves amid reports of financial difficulties at the club.

Brough was linked with a move to Huddersfield earlier this month. The Giants’ coach, Nathan Brown, admitted his interest but Wakefield’s John Kear said the scrum-half would not be allowed to leave Belle Vue. A report on Monday indicated that Sculthorpe, a former Wigan and Castleford prop, would be made available as a cost-cutting measure. Barrow are thought to be among clubs interested in the 29-year-old.

The Wildcats have not published the reason for the pair’s suspension. Kear said: “I am very disappointed with the actions of both players. Both players have been disciplined and our main focus is now on preparing the team for this weekend’s home tie with Huddersfield Giants.”

Kevin Penny, the Warrington winger who was selected in the 2007 Super League Dream Team, has joined Widnes on a month’s loan. Penny scored 12 tries in 13 games in 2007 and 13 tries in 24 matches in 2008, but he has struggled to break into the Wolves side this year under the club’s new coach, Tony Smith. Penny will play for his former Warrington coach, Paul Cullen, at Widnes and he will be joined by the young front-rower Steve Pickersgill.

“I’ve worked with both Steve and Kevin at close hand and I’m sure they will be great additions to our squad,” Cullen said.

Hull are likely to be without the experienced Australian prop Peter Cusack for the rest of the season. He has had a wrist reconstruction.
