Good news: Minnesota Vikings have signed a new QB

Sean Mannion is promoted from the practice squad to serve as the Vikings’ backup quarterback.
The only healthy quarterbacks on the roster are Sean Mannion, the Vikings’ backup quarterback from 2019 to 21, and Sunday starter Joshua Dobbs.

Quarterback Sean Mannion served as Kirk Cousins’ backup for the Vikings from 2019 to 2021. On Sunday, he’ll serve as Joshua Dobbs’ backup.

On Saturday, the Vikings promoted quarterback Sean Mannion from the practice squad to serve as Joshua Dobbs’ backup for Sunday’s game against the Saints at home.

Dobbs and Mannion, who served as Kirk Cousins’ backup from 2019 to 2021, are the Vikings’ only two healthy quarterbacks. Mannion was dismissed prior to the 2022 season but re-signed with the organization on Oct. 11 after Nick Mullens, the team’s backup quarterback, had a back injury. Mullens was eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but he was not prepared.

Last week, rookie quarterback Jaren Hall, who was filling in for the ailing Cousins, suffered a concussion late in the first quarter against the Falcons, clearing the stage for Dobbs’ spectacular Vikings debut five days after being acquired in a trade from Arizona. Hall was still in the league’s concussion protocol this week and did not practice.

The Vikings demoted receiver Justin Jefferson to out for the first game after he was eligible to return from injured reserve, as predicted. Jefferson practiced this week but stated that he will not play until he is 100% recovered and at a low risk of reinjuring his hamstring.QB Sean Mannion had offer to stay in Minnesota but decided on Seahawks practice squad instead | The Seattle Times

Other roster changes T.J. Smith, a defensive lineman, was promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, and linebacker Nick Vigil was signed to the main roster. Chris Reed, an offensive lineman, was demoted to out. Sheldon Day, a defensive lineman, has been re-signed to the practice squad.
