Good news for Iowa Hawkeyes…….

Hawkeyes: Iowa gets good news after rough game, will play Tennessee in Citrus Bowl

After an ugly game Saturday night, Iowa got some much-needed good news on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes were rewarded with a Jan. 1 bowl game in Orlando against Tennessee.

“Typically when you lose, you don’t get good news on Sunday,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said. “Today, that’s not the case. We got wonderful news of playing in an outstanding bowl game.”

The Hawkeyes were shut out by Michigan 26-0 Saturday night in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis. Iowa could muster just seven first downs and 153 yards of offense, but their 10-3 record and history of their fans traveling well was appealing to the Citrus Bowl.

It will be the third time Iowa has played in the Citrus Bowl, highlighted by the Drew Tate-to-Warren Holloway 56-yard touchdown pass as time expired on Jan. 1, 2005, to beat LSU.

“First and foremost we’re excited to still be playing. Really excited to be going back to Orlando,” Ferentz said. “Really tremendous bowl game. It’s a first-class experience for the players on and off the field.”
