Brentford boss says Danish midfielder is progressing after quiet first season since signing from Sampdoria
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is excited by the potential that Mikkel Damsgaard offers his team after a quiet start to life in the Premier League.
Damsgaard signed for Brentford a year ago from Sampdoria, but the 23-year-old attacking midfielder had only nine starts, with 17 substitute appearances, last season, and the Dane has yet to provide a goal or assist.
But Frank believes fans will see a different player of Damsgaard, who has featured in both the club’s Premier League Summer Series matches.
“He came to us after a difficult year with injury and illness,” Frank said ahead of the final match of the tournament against Aston Villa in Maryland.
“Normally it would take a year until you are back to your normal self. He’s come to a new country and a new league and that demands extra.
“He’s been good in pre-season. He came back in a good place. I’m excited for him this season.
“We know he has the ability to find a pass, score goals and set up other players, and that’s what I’m excited to hopefully see from him this season. It looks promising.”
Frank has also enjoyed the Summer Series and feels it has been beneficial for the club and the players.
