West Ham United are now in the front row to sign Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria, with the Italian giants demanding at least £17m, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
According to the Italian outlet (31 July), the Hammers are in pole position to sign the Swiss international ahead of RB Leipzig and AS Monaco, with his Juventus exit to be defined in the next few days.
Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on 31 July that West Ham had indeed reached an agreement to seal his signature and Zakaria will now follow former on-loan midfielder Arthur midfielder in saying his goodbyes.
It will be up to Zakaria to decide his next destination, but it’s been reported that West Ham United are in pole position.
Finally
After so many weeks of protracted talks, it seems as if West Ham United have finally kicked off their post-Rice rebuild with Zakaria’s signature.
The player is still yet to make a decision on his future club but the Hammers are in pole position it’s said, and the Swiss international certainly represents a very sensible and brilliant addition.
The Swiss international certainly can’t fill the Rice hole by himself, but he arguably represents an upgrade on exit-linked Tomas Soucek who suffered a dramatic decline in his form and performance levels throughout the last season and is something the Irons simply have to address with his contract up in 2024.
West Ham United fans shouldn’t judge Zakaria on his failed loan at Chelsea, it was of no fault of his own and his struggles were down to the huge mess that Todd Boehly had created after a raft of quickfire big-money signings.
If David Moyes can return Zakaria to the kind of performances he showed before his move to Juventus, then West Ham United certainly have a stunning player on their hands.
Zakaria shouldn’t be considered an out-an-out defensive midfielder, although he can play the role, he’s a dynamic box-to-box presence capable of wreaking havoc on and off the ball which the Hammers could do well to possess next season.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are surely well positioned to seal the signing of this burgeoning £15m Manchester City talent.
