Nottingham Forest are in final negotiations to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner and it could mean bad news for Dean Henderson.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Forest will only sign one custodian this summer. With talks to sign Turner seemingly going well, that might be worrying for Henderson.
Forest have been chasing a goalkeeper all summer. With just two weeks to go until the Prmeier League gets underway, the club still haven’t signed one.
Henderson has been a long-term target for Forest. However, failure to sort a deal with United and worries over his thigh injury have led to other targets being lined up.
Turner is one of them. Arsenal are keen to sign David Raya from Brentford and the USA captain will likely jump at the chance to play first-team football.
It might not be all bad news for Henderson, however. David Ornstein from The Athletic has claimed that Forest will still sign two goalkeepers during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old would be gutted if his move to Forest didn’t come off. He’s held a desire to sign for the club all summer and was heavily invested at the City Ground last season.
Forest can’t afford not to sign a goalkeeper before the season though. Ethan Horvath is the only senior stopper and he has no Premier League experience.
Forest in final negotiations for Turner and Henderson will be worried
Signing Turner and turning their back on Henderson would be a risk by Forest. The United man probably has the better profile and at 26-years-old, he has more strong years ahead of him.
Still, there is a lot to like about Turner too. He’s showcased some ability at Arsenal, he’s just been unable to dispossess Aaron Ramsdale from between the posts.
At this stage, it’s not clear what will happen. Both Romano and Ornstein are reputable when it comes to transfers but right now, they’re both claiming different things.
Forest fans will be gutted if Henderson doesn’t come back to the club. As a result, the Reds would be wise to do whatever it takes to bring both goalkeepers to the City Ground this summer.
