REPORT; NOTTINGHAM FOREST BID ACCEPTED FOR A CENTRE-BACK

Sources: Nottingham Forest open Joe Worrall talks

Talks are ongoing between Nottingham Forest and centre-back Joe Worrall over a new contract at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Forest captain, 26, is currently out of contract in less than 12 months’ time – but the Midlands giants are ready to tie him down.

Steve Cooper’s side have been quiet in the summer window thus far but are ready to renew the contracts of several of their most important players.

Worrall fits the bill, having come through the club’s youth system to play an important part in their promotion to the Premier League.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that there is a “willingness from all parties” to reach an agreement over an extension in the coming weeks.

The Nottingham-born defender made 34 appearances across all competitions last season despite a deluge of signings threatening to take his place in the side.

He recorded 30 Premier League outings – with 21 of those games coming as part of the starting lineup.

Worrall has now notched 217 total appearances for Nottingham Forest and was a key part of their eventual promotion via the Championship playoffs in the 2021-22 campaign.

The former Rangers loanee penned his last contract extension in 2020.

Nottingham Forest have made just three signings so far this summer – adding Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga and Ola Aina to their squad.

No fewer than 15 stars in the Forest first-team are out of contract in less than 12 months’ time – including Steve Cook, Scott McKenna and Serge Aurier.
