Burnley’s new head of analysis, formerly of Manchester City, might have a ripple effect on the team.

FORMER Manchester City Head of Analysis Piet Cremers has been appointed as one of Vincent Kompany’s assistants at Burnley.

The 28-year-old worked for City for four-and-a-half years up to last September and specialised in the individual development of players. The UEFA A Licence coach will have a similar remit at Burnley, fusing coaching and analysis.

Cremers is a prime example of the new breed of coach-analysts we are seeing at the top end of the game. Another is Richard Bredice, who is Burnley’s Lead Performance Analyst and Set Piece Coach.

In 2021 he told TGG: “Analysts didn’t traditionally move with managers, but it’s happening a lot more now. You’re also now seeing a new hybrid role of coach-analyst, which is becoming a lot more prevalent.

“You get somebody who is doing the analysis but spends a lot of time on the grass as well. I’m working towards that – I’ve got my B licence and am hoping to jump onto my A Licence soon as well.
