ROMANO: ARSENAL HAVE JUST OFFERED £23M FOR ‘OUTSTANDING’ PLAYER

Arsenal have made their move for Brentford goalkeeper  by offering a deal worth around £23million.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has been the subject of a £23million offer from London rivals Arsenal.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to Twitter to report that Arsenal have now submitted their first bid for Raya.

It’s stated that Arsenal have offered £20million as a fixed fee plus £3million in add-ons for Raya.

That is nowhere near the £40million price tag Brentford have reportedly slapped on the Spaniard’s head.

Arsenal are well aware that Raya’s contract ends in 2024 though and are trying to tempt Brentford with a slightly lower price tag.

Romano adds that Raya has already told Brentford that he wants to join Arsenal this summer.

The Spaniard is understood to have already agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of making the move across London.

David Raya taking a gamble with potential Arsenal move

Raya has been superb in the Premier League with Brentford with former top-flight stopper Shaka Hislop hailing him as an ‘outstanding’ player.

The Spaniard has particularly impressed with the ball at his feet, truly becoming the extra man in possession for Brentford.

That understandably appeals to Arsenal but some have questioned Raya’s thinking with making this move.

Raya has ascended to the Spain national team whilst playing as Brentford’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Raya would head to Arsenal as second-choice to Aaron Ramsdale and would face a real battle to overtake the Englishman.

Maybe Raya backs himself to impress Mikel Arteta so much that he just can’t be ignored.

Euro 2024 is on the horizon though and if Raya spends most of the season on the bench, he may well find himself out of the Spain squad.
