Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has explained why Kieran Trippier is so special behind the scenes as well as on the pitch.
The 32-year-old has proved to be a transformative signing at St James’ Park, and is well on his way to becoming a Newcastle United legend. He has had an incredible impact since arriving from Atletico Madrid, and has helped lay the foundation for the success we are currently having.
Trippier oozes class whenever he plays, which is why he was the best right-back in the Premier League last season. He featured in every game for the Magpies, and played at an incredibly high level for the entire campaign. Being consistent is one thing, but doing it at his level is even more impressive.
The England international leads by example, both on and off the pitch. And ahead of this weekend’s Sela Cup at St James’ Park, Howe has explained why Trippier is such a good leader for the rest of the group away from matchdays.

Howe has spoke to the media ahead of this weekend’s Sela Cup games against Fiorentina and Villarreal, and explained why Trippier is so vital to Newcastle United – and why he is about to become even more important.
“He’s a leader of the group,” he said.
“He sets the tone and example in terms of how to train and the attitude that the players need to be successful.
“Crucially, I think he’s got the experience of big competitions, big games which is certainly going to be important for us this year.”

Trippier has raised standards ever since his arrival on Tyneside. He has brought his teammates up to his level, rather than lowering his.
He is the ultimate professional, and Howe is expecting the defender to have an even bigger role this season. Big games are on the horizon in the Champions League, and those are the type of nights that Trippier knows all about.
It will be a new experience for a lot of the Newcastle players, so Trippier’s history in the competition will be invaluable.
Trippier played a lot of minutes last season, but Howe might not have to rely so heavily on him this time round. That is because Tino Livramento is on the brink of joining, and he will provide strong backup for the man who ‘sets the tone’ at Newcastle United.
