Breaking News; Vice-president of partnership sales at Liverpool to take over as Newcastle United’s new director of partnerships

Jonathan Kane has left his position as vice-president of partnership sales at Liverpool to take over as Newcastle United’s new director of partnerships

Liverpool must adjust to another exit behind the scenes after Newcastle United confirmed the appointment of Jonathan Kane at St. James’ Park.

Kane was the Reds’ vice-president of partnership sales and had been with the club for 15 years. However, he has now departed to take over as Newcastle’s new director of partnerships.

Speaking to his new club website, he said: “I am excited to be joining Newcastle United, particularly at a time of unprecedented growth for the club. I am looking forward to working with the talented group of people here at St. James’ Park and building an exceptional partnership business together.”

Kane had been Liverpool’s vice-president of partnership sales since May 2019, while he had also served as director of international business development at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Kane also posted an emotional message on LinkedIn when confirming his Anfield exit as he also paid thanks to former Reds chief executive, Ian Ayre.

“After 15 amazing years, I recently left Liverpool Football Club,” he wrote. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have made so many friends along the way and experienced so many wonderful memories.

“Has been quite a journey to experience those humble beginnings from our little office in the Liverpool Echo building to become the commercial powerhouse LFC is today. But it’s time for a new challenge and back to my native North East to join the Newcastle United Football Club rocket ship!

“It has been an incredible start having witnessed the club’s massive support on our recent US Tour to Philadelphia, Atlanta and New Jersey. I’ve been blown away by the togetherness of ownership, football and the business, and the welcome from my awesome new colleagues. Can’t wait to get started!”

Kane isn’t the first Liverpool member of staff to depart for Newcastle, with the Reds losing performance analyst Mark Leyland to Magpies in December 2021 – though he has since joined Man City earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the club have also seen two sporting directors in Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, club doctor Jim Moxon, director of research Dr. Ian Graham, and loans manager David Woodfine move on in little over a year.
