In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Newcastle United are keen on signing Atletico Madrid ace Marcos Llorente this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to land the Spanish midfielder during this summer transfer period.
Llorente’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Llorente had an impressive season at the Madrid club as he put in a handful of eye-catching displays for them in the middle of the park. The 28-year-old scored three times and picked up three assists in 29 matches for Diego Simeone’s side in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Madrid-born talent was a decent performer in both halves and deserves credit for averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.1 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from midfield after making 85.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, the Magpies will have to make a convincing offer if they want to secure Llorente’s services soon.
Should Newcastle United Move In For Llorente This Summer?
Llorente can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition.
The Spanish sensation can clear the danger when needed and is a good shooter as well from long range. He can create some meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third and is usually quite intelligent with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
Llorente has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting spot at Newcastle next season. He will add more quality to Eddie Howe‘s midfield department and help the Magpies compete across all fronts over the next few years.
At 28, Llorente is playing at the peak of his career and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at St. James’ Park as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football. All in all, Howe should focus on moving in for the Spaniard before the end of this transfer period.
