FACTS; Andy Townsend raves about ‘extraordinary’ Nottingham Forest star

Andy Townsend has hailed Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of the new campaign getting underway. The Reds face Arsenal on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium and the playmaker is likely to be in the team.

Gibbs-White has enjoyed a decent start to life at Forest. His maiden campaign finished with him scoring five goals and claiming eight assists and with the Reds securing their status as a Premier League club with a game to spare.

Forest must now prepare to go again. They will face a daunting opening month of the campaign; facing Sheffield United at home and Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea away from the City Ground.

Townsend was asked to pick three young players to keep an eye on this season. He chose Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, Aston Villa gem Jacob Ramsey and Forest talent Gibbs-White.

He told TalkSPORT: “One player who embraced the challenge in front of him last season was Morgan Gibbs-White. They had to battle, they had to scrap. I watched him against Arsenal and nobody epitomised more about getting around the pitch and trying to make something happen than him. He had a big summer and I think now for him, can he nudge himself up to double figures for goals? If he does that, he’s going to be a player that I think everyone will enjoy watching.”

Back in May after Forest defeated Arsenal, the Reds man was raved about by Garth Crooks. He called him ‘extraordinary’ on BBC Sport for his efforts during the 1-0 win.

One of the huge positives of this drab transfer window has been keeping hold of the club’s top players. Brennan Johnson and Gibbs-White are quality players and must be kept on board at all costs.

Gibbs-White, 22, is a tremendous player. With Wolves in dire straits at the moment, they must be kicking themselves that they sold the player for an initial £25 million.

Forest go into this current campaign somewhat light on quality. With Gibbs-White in their ranks, however, they will always have a chance of producing the goods and collecting the right amount of points.
