Jamie Carragher drops verdict on West Ham United David Moyes sack decision

Jamie Carragher believes there is a “disconnect” at West Ham between David Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten amid talk the boss could be sacked.

Moyes has been tipped to potentially lose his job if the club start the season badly, with the manager and Steidten reportedly going head-to-head about protracted transfer targets.

At the time of writing nobody has signed yet this summer, although Edson Alvarez is set to join from Ajax, but Carragher told The Overlap (8 August) that the manager’s future is one to watch over the next few weeks.

“The problem for West Ham at the moment is that it looks like there is something going on with David Moyes and the new director of football that’s come in,” he said.

“There’s talk of David Moyes actually losing his job. I’ll be really interested to see what happens over the next two or three weeks.

“I think Moyes wants to go back to bringing in Premier League players, because the transfer window didn’t go too great for West Ham last season, and I think the new director of football is obviously looking at foreign players.

“So it looks like there is a disconnect behind the scenes.”

Madness

It’s crazy that we can be two thirds of the way through a transfer window with nobody signed and the manager and director of football at loggerheads over targets.

Obviously Steidten was brought in later in the summer than would have initially been anticipated, but you’d have assumed that Moyes was involved in the process somewhat since they are going to be working together so closely.

But whatever the club did, they obviously didn’t work on a list of targets together and come to an agreement because the direction we’re going in is still unknown and seems like a scattergun approach.

Nobody knows what is happening and there have been reports of Moyes being sacked and resigning, so clearly not everyone is happy right now.

They need to find a common ground and sort it out before the window shuts then sit down and decide it all during the season ahead of the January window, or all of this will be a complete waste of time.
