West Ham working to conclude transfer for midfielder as talks still in progress between both clubs

West Ham United are working to conclude a deal to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton as soon as possible.

Southampton are keen for the 28-year-old midfielder to play against Norwich City on Saturday but there is now an increasing likelihood that will be his final game for the club.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that West Ham had a £30million ($38.3m, €34.4m) offer rejected by Southampton for Ward-Prowse.

Ward-Prowse has been at Southampton all of his career, having risen through their academy ranks.

He has made 422 appearances for the south coast side, scoring 55 goals and assisting on 55 occasions.

West Ham, meanwhile, are keen to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m.

The Athletic reported that Manchester United have rejected West Ham’s £30m bid for Scott McTominay. United value the 26-year-old at more than £40m and Erik ten Hag would ideally like to keep hold of him.

The east London club also had an offer in the region of £45m rejected by Fulham for midfielder Joao Palhinha in July.

Maguire, McTominay and Ward-Prowse have been linked – West Ham need to get serious in transfer hunt.
