If Paqueta’s transfer from West Ham United is not completed within the next 24 hours, a transfer expert explain the facts and consequences Hammer could face

Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Manchester City could look to sign Florian Wirtz if they don’t end up sealing a deal for Lucas Paqueta.

Over the past few days, the Citizens have been linked with a move for the West Ham United midfielder and have made a verbal approach for him.

With the club seeing an apparent offer of £70m knocked back by the Hammers, one journalist has claimed that the treble winners have their eyes on another player they could sign if they end up walking away from a potential deal for Paqueta.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Fully Loaded Transfer Show, Jacobs had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I’d also keep an eye, by the way, on Manchester City who have looked. I think Manchester City might move if they don’t get Paqueta for Wirtz, I wouldn’t rule that out because I think he’ll be out of Newcastle’s budget for this window.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Citizens have the Bayer Leverkusen player on their radar and could make a move for him before the summer transfer window closes.

With 103 senior appearances for the German club under his belt, the 20-year-old has scored 23 goals and delivered 30 assists.

Described as a being a “huge asset” by Hansi Flick, Wirtz may not have the experience that Paqueta has under his belt, but he does have a bigger landscape ahead of him in terms of developing his game and becoming a top player.

Moving forward, we feel that the best move for City would be to persevere in trying to land a deal for the West Ham star given how he has a full year of Premier League experience and is more of a finished article than the young German is.
