Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams may not join Chelsea this week, and the possibility of a move to Brighton has opened up today.
Leeds’ transfer window was in danger of stagnating as the club needs to fuel incomings by bringing in money through sales.
Tyler Adams appeared to be the best chance Leeds had at bringing in significant funds for further signings.
Adams to Chelsea?
Through this week, it has seemed like Chelsea has been the destination that midfielder Adams has been set for, with the Blues triggering his £20million release clause and scheduling a medical.
The USMNT midfielder would be joining Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, subject to completing the formalities of the deal.
What’s the latest?
Now, The Secret Scout is claiming that the deal isn’t cut and dry yet with Adams heading to Chelsea, due to the huge saga involving Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Overnight, it was reported that Liverpool had agreed a deal to sign the Ecuador international for a British transfer record fee of £111million, pipping Chelsea’s long-standing interest in the Seagulls star in the process.
However, if the Blues do manage to hijack the deal to sign Caicedo, it opens the door for Adams to head to the AMEX Stadium instead of Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano has now shared that Caicedo has turned down the chance to join Liverpool with his heart set on Chelsea, potentially causing the domino effect mentioned above:
As long as we get the £20million for Adams and are able to tackle next week with money in the bank, then I could not care less where he ends up.
Heading to Chelsea might be an easier task for Adams than it would be to replace Caicedo in this Brighton side.
The Seagulls have been irresistible to watch under Roberto De Zerbi and at the heart of that has been Caicedo, and Adams is not nearly the same player.
He cannot evade pressure with the same amount of ease, and his progression needs a lot of work, but his quality in breaking up play is second to none.
