Two in: How Leeds United should be looking to utilise potential Willy Gnonto windfall after chaotic week – View

Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto looks to have made his mind up on where his future lies after refusing to play this week in the EFL Cup against Shrewsbury.

Leeds United set to finalise two marquee deals in next hours

Leeds are planning for more incomings for the rest of the summer window, but they might have to accommodate for more outgoings too.

£20million is coming in thanks to Tyler Adams’ move to Chelsea, and Willy Gnonto is doing his best to no longer play for Leeds – refusing to play in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, per the Daily Mail.

A fee more than £15million (at the very least) is going to be required to prise the Italian from Elland Road, and it might be a worthwhile sale for Leeds, if they can bring in the right players to address weaknesses in the side.

Here, we look at two positions where Gnonto’s sale could help Leeds reinvest…

It’s very obvious that Daniel Farke needs a focal point in this attacking setup at Leeds, and having both Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford injured for the start of the season only highlighted it more.

Links haven’t been hard to come by for Leeds, with Swansea City’s Joel Piroe seemingly the most dominant of names in the rumour mill.

If Gnonto is no longer going to be part of Leeds’ attack, the money they get in for him should be used to revitalise the attack.

Wingers aren’t needed at this stage with Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Ian Poveda, Luis Sinisterra, and Jack Harrison all good options.

A 20-plus goal scorer is a must for Leeds.

Should Leeds cash in on Gnonto?

Attacking midfielder

Summerville shone in the opening game of the season for Leeds as the ‘number 10’, but it’s not because he’s a good attacking midfielder, it’s because he’s just too good for the players he faces.

A lightning-quick winger that links up very well with other players in attack is always going to do well through the middle, but his talents are clearly more suited to playing on the right wing.

Leeds need their answer to Emi Buendia right now, and they aren’t going to produce consistent performances without the balance that a central attacking player brings.

The side needs someone to connect the attack to the defence in build-up, and a quality player could be bought with the money Gnonto brings in.
