The former Whites goalkeeper has made it plain where United’s transfer priorities should lie
Leeds United’s transfer priority has to be finding a direct replacement for Patrick Bamford up front.
That is the view of former England and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who feels an out and out striker has to be prioritised over somebody who can ‘maybe play as a nine’.
Robinson’s comments come amid links with West Brom forward Grady Diangana and while he rates the former West Ham United star, he feels Leeds would be better served signing a more natural centre forward.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “There’s more to his game, but you’d expect more goals. I think at that level he’s proven he can do it in the Championship and won promotion from the Championship.
“There are elements of his game that he is lacking. Obviously, more goals and more assists are the two that stand out. But in Leeds’ system in the way that they play, he could play as a false nine.
“Willy Gnonto and Dan James played as a nine, and we’re back to struggling without Patrick Bamford. For the last 18 to 24 months, Patrick struggled to get fit and put a run of games together.
“If that’s going to be the situation going forward, rather than somebody who can maybe play as a nine, I think we have to address the situation and get another direct replacement.”
