Leeds United boss gives ‘good news’ update as Everton lodge ‘new £35m bid’ for goal machine

Everton have now made four separate offers for Leeds United forward Willy Gnonto, according to Sky Sports.

The reliable news source reported on its live transfer blog on Wednesday [16 August, 15:38] that the Toffees’ latest new bid for Gnonto was around £35m, with add-ons and a sell-on clause included.

Leeds have previously stated the Italy international is not for sale and have internally punished the player after he refused to play in their past two matches.

The Whites are said to have ended negotiations with Everton after discussing a deal for more than a month.

Serious interest

Everton pulled off quite the coup earlier this week by landing Jack Harrison on an initial loan deal, having taken full advantage of a relegation clause in the winger’s contract.

Leeds are in full control of Gnonto’s future, however, and they are clearly not willing to cave into the player’s demands by allowing him to leave this summer.

The Toffees appear desperate to land the 20-year-old given that they reputedly made four separate offers, but it remains to be seen if they will come in with a fifth before the 11pm deadline on 1 September.

Sean Dyche’s side could do with signing another centre-forward to both fill in for and complement injury-prone star Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Gnonto showed during his one season in the Premier League that he is a real menace.

To put that into some perspective, Abdoulaye Doucoure – surprisingly – was the only Everton player (0.41) to beat that figure last season.

Given his age and the fact he has already been capped 11 times by Italy at senior level, Gnonto is clearly an extremely talented player.

Leeds are fully aware of that, and now it is over to Everton to decide if they wish to test the Whites’ resolve any further.

In other Everton news, Simon Jordan and Jim White both hit out at Gnonto over his refusal to play for Leeds.
