Report: Everton are now in pole position to sign £12m attacker who wins triple the amount of headers as Neal Maupay
Everton are now in pole position to sign Che Adams this summer.
That’s according to Alan Nixon, who has reported on his Patreon that the Toffees have made a fresh £12 million bid for the Southampton striker.
Adams claimed 10 goals and three assists in all competitions last season as the Saints were relegated to the Championship and he now looks set to leave after entering the final year of his contract.
After netting two goals in their opening two games in the second tier, Adams is now eager to return to the top flight and could leave for Goodison Park.
Sean Dyche’s side are said to be up against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Fulham in their pursuit of the 27-year-old, but it is Everton that are leading the race for his signature.
The Merseyside outfit have been searching for a new striker all summer following the departure of Ellis Simms to Coventry City. Everton were forced to start Neal Maupay up top on the opening day after a disastrous 2022/23 season that saw him score only once, with Adams winning three times as many headers as the Frenchman.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been sidelined after a large chunk of the last couple of seasons on the treatment table, leaving Dyche with very few options the spearhead his attack.
Southampton have already reportedly rejected a bid from the Cherries for Adams, though Everton are hopeful that they can progress with their own offer after opening talks with the Scot.
Che Adams would be a solid addition for Everton
While not a prolific goalscorer, Che Adams was arguably one of few positives during a poor campaign for Southampton.
The striker showed that he could still score goals and create chances while the overall performances were significantly below par.
The Toffees need to take advantage of some of the quality within the relegated clubs and Adams would be the perfect example of that, while they continue to monitor Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds United.
