Everton transfer news as Russell Martin confirms Southampton reject bid for Che Adams

Southampton manager Russell Martin has confirmed that a bid has been rejected for striker Che Adams but remains unsure whether he’ll remain at the club.

Sky Sports reported on Thursday 17 August that Everton have made a fresh £12million bid to sign the Scotland international.

UK radio station TalkSPORT reported on 19 August that Everton were preparing a new offer for Adams after seeing a £12m offer rejected and the Southampton boss admitted that they will quickly need to replace him should he move on.

He said: “We’ve had a bid rejected. You can talk as much as you want after that, it’s not my job to talk about it, my job is to work with Che.

“I love him as a player and a person, he’s fantastic and will be huge for us if we can keep him. I don’t know about the talks being ongoing, I’ll talk to Jason Wilcox tonight.

“I’d love to keep him. If we don’t, we need to replace him. It’s that simple.”

Adams saga heats up

The Southampton manager has certainly made his intentions on Adams pretty clear right now, on two separate occasions and after his goalscoring exploits on Saturday, it’s clear he could prove crucial for the club in their attempts to return to the Premier League next season.

However, Martin knows the decision doesn’t rest with him and should Everton make an improved offer for the 27-year-old striker, it may prove too tempting for the club to turn down.Everton

After completing deals for Arnaut Danjuma, Youssef Chermiti and Jack Harrison, players who immediately bolster Sean Dyche’s attacking ranks for the campaign, it’s quite clear the Everton boss wants another striker and Adams certainly fits the bill.

However, whether Everton can cough up the cash to submit an improved bid for Southampton’s star man remains to be seen.

But, the Toffees have moved rather impressively so far this summer but the next few days of the summer market are setting up fairly nicely as the Adams saga intently heats up once more.

In other Everton, one super-rich club are “eager” to sign Amadou Onana this summer and are willing to offer players in part exchange for the £60m-rated midfielder.
