The Whites have made an indifferent start to the season as they deal with a major squad reshuffle
Leeds United’s four signings this summer would make the starting XI of a ‘large proportion’ of Championship teams. But the volatility caused by the controversial ‘loan clauses’ that have led to multiple transfer exits and unrest in the Elland Road dressing room will make life difficult for the Whites this term.
That is the verdict of former Wales international and Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Hal Robson-Kanu, who believes United will have to undergo a ‘rebuilding phase’ under head coach Daniel Farke.
Robson-Kanu was in the TV studio for Leeds’ 1-1 draw with West Brom on Friday evening and hailed their incoming transfer business. But with 13 players leaving the club and both Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra trying to force a move away from the club, he feels the ‘volatility’ at the club will be difficult to overcome.
“I think when you look at Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Sam Byram, as well as Karl Darlow, they have all got fantastic experience and they are quality,” Robson-Kanu said.

“If you were to speak to the majority of teams in this league and ask them if they would add those players to their starting XI, I think a large proportion of the teams would do so.
“There are positives in that but the level of volatility they are experiencing is really tough to deal with.”
When asked whether the departures of Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and Jack Harrison, all on loan deals, will be affecting the Leeds dressing room alongside Gnonto and Sinisterra’s desire to leave, Robson-Kanu added: “100 per cent.
“And it always stems from ownership and management. It is very difficult when owners are putting these complex clauses around players and these players are now leaving on loan.
“That volatility is causing unrest in the changing room and the players who are now having to stay here because they haven’t got that clause in their contract, they are making silly decisions and being advised incorrectly.
“It always starts from the top, so Leeds are clearly going to go through a rebuilding phase. Hopefully they are going to have a good season but it is going to be very difficult because in this league they are one of the top scalps to take.”
