Tottenham ‘to seal a deal for Harry Kane replacement’

Tottenham Hotspur have set aside significant funds to sign a new striker to replace Harry Kane, according to a report.

Spurs bid farewell to their all-time leading goalscorer Kane earlier this month when he completed a Bundesliga-record £100m transfer to Bayern Munich.

Kane scored on his Bundesliga debut in Bayern’s 4-0 away win over Werder Bremen last Friday, but Tottenham have managed to cope without the England captain so far this season, scoring four goals and picking up four points from their opening two Premier League games against Brentford and Manchester United

Tottenham are light in the centre-forward department, though, with Brazil international Richarlison – who is still waiting to score his first Premier League goal for Spurs – the only recognised frontman in Ange Postecoglou‘s first-team squad.

Spurs have spent over £150m on eight signings so far this summer, but according to Football Insider, the North Londoners are planning to recruit a new big-money signing before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The report adds that Tottenham are expected to step up their interest in a number of top attacking targets and they have a “huge” transfer budget available.

Since the departure of Kane, Spurs have been linked with a number of strikers including Nigeria-born youngster Gift Orban, who has made a notable impression in front of goal since joining Belgian club Gent in January.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has scored 26 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions for Gent, including six strikes in as many appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.

Spurs are believed to be keeping tabs on Orban along with a number of other clubs including Man United and Bayern Munich, but they must allegedly pay between £30m and £40m if they wish to lure the striker away from Gent this summer.

Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in Nordsjaelland striker Ernest Nuamah, with one report claiming that they are preparing to make a formal bid for the 19-year-old.

However, Spurs appear to have lost out to Lyon in the race for Nuamah’s signature, as journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the teenager has completed medical tests ahead of finalising a €30m move to the French club.

Another name who has been linked with a summer switch to Postecoglou’s side is Chelsea‘s wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku, who is searching for a new club as he does not fit into the plans of new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham are understood to have identified the 30-year-old former Inter Milan striker as a possible target, but he is not considered a priority option as things stand.
