Clube refuse Tottenham Hotspur offer for 26-year-old attacker

FC Porto reject Tottenham Hotspur proposal for attacker Pepe

Tottenham facing struggles in their pursuit of dynamic Bundesliga defensive star

Tottenham Hotspur have had an offer rejected by FC Porto to sign forward Pepe in the ongoing transfer window, according to Portuguese outlet ABola.

Spurs put in a proposal worth €45 million plus €15 million add-ons for the Brazilian national. However, the Primeira Liga outfit immediately rebuffed the proposition from the North London side.

The 26-year-old is seen as a key player by the Dragoes. Therefore, the Lilywhites have been informed that a deal worth €75 million, which happens to be the release clause in the lift winger’s contract, is the only way to get a hold of his signature.

Apart from Tottenham, North London rivals Arsenal also made an attempt to acquire the services of Pepe in the ongoing transfer window. However, Porto’s stance was the same for the Gunners as well.

In the summer of 2021, the Portuguese outfit signed the Brazilian from Gremio. Since then, he has been ever-present in the starting lineup for Sergio Conceicao’s team.

Last season, the versatile player played in multiple positions for the Primeira Liga outfit. He played on both attacking wings as well as a right-back on a number of occasions, making 55 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.

At Tottenham, Son Heung-min is now the talisman of the team after the departure of Harry Kane. Out wide, we also have Dejan Kulusevski and Manor Solomon. Ivan Perisic can also play up top.

However, Richarlison is the only natural option Spurs have for the number nine position. Unfortunately, the former Everton star was underwhelming last season and has been unable to do much at the start of the 2023/24 term.

Therefore, before strengthening other areas of the pitch, the evident lack of quality and depth in the striking department needs to be addressed. Pepe has shown a lot of potential at Porto. But the Portuguese outfit’s demands for the Brazilian seem a bit too much.
