Leeds United are said to have agreed a fee for attacking midfielde

Leeds United are said to have agreed a fee for Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielde Nadiem Amiri and head coach Xabi Alonso was asked for an update on the player

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso insists Leeds United transfer target Nadiem Amiri is in his latest matchday squad. The Whites have reportedly agreed a £5 million fee to sign the 26-year-old, with the attacking midfielder said to be set to sign a four-year deal at Elland Road.

Amiri has entered the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga side, and has also been named as a possible target for Marseille in this window. However, Alonso insists the in-demand attacker could feature in the away clash at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Asked for an update on Amiri’s future, the Liverpool legend told Sky Sports in Germany: “Nadiem Amiri is in the squad against Borussia Monchengladbach.” The update provides the latest twist regarding Amiri, with the Germany international said to have ‘cooled’ on a move to the Ligue 1 side in light of the approach from United.

Leeds are said to be keen to bring in Amiri following the successful pursuit of Joel Piroe. The former Netherlands youth international agreed a four-year deal with the Whites after a fee in excess of £10m was agreed with Swansea City.
