“Weird one”: Leeds United’s pursuit of reasonably-priced midfielder has “gone quiet” – Graham Smyth

Leeds United’s attempts to bring in Glen Kamara from Rangers appears to have gone quiet, despite ongoing reports of “advanced talks” throughout August.

The mood at Elland Road amongst fans has lifted dramatically in the last two days with signings coming through the doors at LS11.

Joel Piroe has joined the club from Swansea City, a fee has been agreed for Nadiem Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen, and more could be targeted soon.

Glen Kamara to Leeds?

A name frequently linked with Leeds throughout the summer so far has been Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, who is yet to kick a ball for the Glasgow giants this season, as he picks up fitness following illness in pre-season, along with his future being up in the air.

The Finland international would reportedly come in at a cost of £5.5million, per the Scottish Sun, seeing Rangers make a potential huge profit on their £50,000 investment back in 2019.

What’s the latest?

It seems to be the longest drawn-out transfer link of the summer, and now, it’s still showing no signs of being decided one way or another.

That’s according to the YEP’s Graham Smyth, who replied to a fan on social media on the matter, claiming it’s been a “weird one”:

Kamara looks to be surplus to requirements at Rangers under Mick Beale, so it seems as though if Leeds were truly sold on signing him, then it would have happened already.

He’s a great player and would have been a very good signing for us, but I just don’t see it happening right now.

We need a new midfielder and he fits the bill for what style of player that is required, but the club probably have other irons in the fire.
