Leeds United player outlines ‘integral’ reason behind Leeds United departure and puts thanks on record

The former Leeds United midfielder completed his move to Bournemouth last week

Tyler Adams says Bournemouth owner Bill Foley played an integral part in his decision to leave Leeds United and link up with the Cherries. The United States international made his move to the Vitality Stadium last week after the Premier League outfit activated the relegation release clause in his Elland Road contract.

Adams had been linked with a move to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge only for a move to collapse at the eleventh hour. The midfielder returned to Elland Road but only for a short time with Andoni Iraola’s side coming in to activate the clause in his contract.

The former Leeds midfielder told TNT Sport: “My first impressions of the club are the staff and environment that they’ve created here and this new culture that they’re trying to build, has been amazing. I’ve had a great conversation with Andoni leading up to my move to come here.

“I think the way that he wants to play, fits the way I play. That correlation in what they’re trying build here, I’m super excited to join the team.

“The interest came pretty early on after we found out we were going down with Leeds. It took a while because I was at a crucial time of my rehab with Leeds.

“I was very thankful for everyone at Leeds for what they did for me throughout that process. It’s never easy being on the sidelines and not being able to contribute.

“After I talked to the staff, the ownership group and exactly what wanted to do here I knew I could fit right in. I think I’m going to bring a little bit of tenacity to this team.

“The way that Andoni wants to play, which is a high press on the front foot, looking to win balls, I think that’s something that I’m good at and I’m certainly going to try and bring that here.”

Adams missed the relegation run in with Leeds after picking up a hamstring injury in March and has missed all of pre-season. He continued: “It’s tough to watch from the sidelines but I’m very close though. About a couple of weeks out I would say, so I think after the international break is going to be my first look at games.

“Hopefully in the international break there’s a friendly of some sorts I’ll play some capacity in that and getting back after the international break.”

Adams joins fellow American Foley on the south coast with the new investor pumping money into the Cherries this season.

“He was integral in my decision coming down here,” Adams said. “I think you look at American sports to the insight into the owner he is, with the Las Vegas Knights in the NHL in two years of his ownership he created a winning culture there and they won the Stanley Cup.

“I’m not going to say that we’re going to win the Premier League within the next two years because that’s a difficult task but to bring a winning culture to this team is certainly important and I think he’s going to contribute to that.”
