Everton might still sign Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto before the transfer deadline at 11 p.m. tonight.
Everton could yet sign Wilfried Gnonto today, according to writer Fraser Fletcher. According to the journalist, the “door is not yet closed” on this transaction.
Everton have been pursuing a trade for Gnonto all summer. So far, the Championship club has resisted the Toffees’ advances, despite the fact that the 19-year-old has made it known that he wants to transfer to Goodison Park.
Leeds are said to be asking £25 million for the 11-cap Italy international. It remains to be seen whether the pressure of the clock on deadline day can persuade Everton to eventually accept the Yorkshire club’s demands.
Gnonto could transform Everton
Gnonto would certainly represent an exciting arrival on Merseyside. The teenager showed flashes of his extraordinary raw ability in the Premier League last season. Whilst he couldn’t ultimately help Leeds steer clear of the drop, Gnonto was able to contribute to the cause with four goals and four assists over the course of the campaign.
Gnonto certainly has a lot more to offer. Former coach Michael Skubala described him as a “special player” with a lot of promise.
The Italian would add flare, speed, and directness to Everton’s attack. Sean Dyche will trust his ability to get the best out of Gnonto, and if he can strike the ground running at Everton, he has the potential to have a revolutionary impact.
Everton will be anxious to finally sign their man following such a protracted summer transfer saga. Despite the additions of Arnaut Danjuma and Gnonto’s Leeds teammate Jack Harrison, the former Zurich forward would be the most interesting new face among Dyche’s plethora of attacking alternatives.
