The Cottagers announced the signing of the 27-year-old midfielder in the early hours of Saturday (2 September)

According to Football Insider, Alex Iwobi agreed to a last-minute move to Fulham after rejecting three new contract offers from Everton.

The Cottagers announced the signing of the 27-year-old midfielder in the early hours of Saturday (2 September), after the window had legally closed.

Fulham and Everton are thought to have agreed on a sum of roughly £22 million for Iwobi.

The Merseysiders were eventually obliged to sell the former Arsenal star because he had entered the final year of his contract and had turned down repeated offers to extend it.

Everton were close to reaching an agreement with the star earlier in the window and were reportedly handed a “huge” extension offer.

But Iwobi declined, opting to return to London in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Everton also released Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Neal Maupay, and Tom Cannon on Friday (1 September).

Iwobi started the first two games of the season for Everton but has missed the following two due to a hamstring injury.

He had two goals and nine assists in 41 appearances for Sean Dyche’s team at Goodison Park last season as they avoided relegation.

The former Arsenal midfielder, who joined Everton in 2019, can play on both sides and as a central midfielder.

In the summer window, Fulham also signed Calvin Bassey, Timothy Castagne, Raul Jimenez, and Adama Traore.

Despite late interest from Bayern Munich, Marco Silva’s side was able to keep Joao Palhinha at the club.
