According to reports, Leicester City has won the race to capture Everton attacker Tom Cannon.
With a late bid, City are claimed to have beaten off competition from Preston North End and Middlesbrough. Preston are said to have offered around £15 million for the teenage striker, outbidding Boro.
However, with the potential departures of Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho, City entered the competition late. The latter is rumored to be on his way to Nottingham Forest.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the arrangement that would bring Cannon to the King Power Stadium is worth £20 million with add-ons. Cannon spent last season on loan at Preston North End of the Championship.
As a result, “half of the division” appears to have attempted to sign him. Boro were optimistic of a deal after leapfrogging Sunderland. However, City’s offer appears to have been sufficient to persuade the Toffees to split ways with the kid.
Cannon joined Goodison Park as a 10-year-old and advanced through the youth divisions before making four senior appearances. In November 2022, he made his debut in a 3-0 away loss against Bournemouth.
