Leeds United’s forgotten player has 72 hours to…..

Leeds United winger Helder Costa is not in Daniel Farke’s plans at Elland Road, and a return to Saudi Arabia could still be on the cards with three days left in their transfer season.

Daniel Farke will be relieved that Elland Road has witnessed the end of one of the most perplexing transfer windows in recent memory, with relegation triggering a mass departure but very little money pouring in for the exits.

While there were certain exits that the club could have done without, others are for the better for all parties this season.

What is going on with Helder Costa?

Robinson tips Costa for Leeds United exit after transfer talks

Helder Costa was the third player to be left out of training with the rest of the squad in August, following the departures of Luis Sinisterra and Willy Gnonto.

The £16 million signing has been out of the Leeds plans for some time, having been loaned out to Valencia and then Al Ittihad in the last two seasons, failing in both teams despite winning the Saudi Pro League under his former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sinisterra is gone, and Anthony has taken her place.

Is he allowed to leave the club?

Costa will not be able to claw his way back into the Leeds team with no squad number, implying an exit is imminent.

He is in the final year of his contract at the club and there will be no extension, so he either leaves soon or sees out the balance of his contract at Thorp Arch.

Leeds will be hoping that a deal can be made through the negotiation strength of his agency, Jorge Mendes, with the remaining days of other transfer windows across the world.

Costa’s return to Saudi Arabia could make sense, with their transfer window closing in three days on Thursday, September 7th.

The question of whether Al Ittihad would have an underperforming Costa back is easy to answer, given that they have strengthened dramatically this summer, buying Karim Benzema, N’golo Kante, Fabinho, and Jota.
