The truth finally revealed.

Demarai Gray is slated to join Al-Ettifaq today.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the winger has agreed to a $10 million (£8 million) move to Saudi Arabia.

Gray will be introduced as an Al-Ettifaq player after signing a four-year contract and passing his physical this week.

Gray had seemed likely to leave Everton all summer, having been left out of the matchday squad since the season’s last day in 2022/23.

The Jamaica international was linked with Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Al-Shabab, but he will now join Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson in the Middle East.

Gray appeared to be forced to stay at Goodison Park after remaining at the club over last week’s transfer deadline.

The social media feud between Demarai Gray and Everton

Gray issued a statement on social media after it was believed that the Toffees had opted to obstruct his exit following Alex Iwobi’s move to Craven Cottage.

The 27-year-old posted on Instagram, “Everton fans have always been great with me but it’s so difficult to play for someone who doesn’t show you respect as a person.”

In an interview with evertontv, Sean Dyche responded to the player’s comments, saying, “It’s an unfortunate one because I try to keep our business in-house.” I believe it is appropriate to respond on this occasion.

“Demarai made it clear that he felt he was getting a move [away from Everton] and that a move had been completed, which was interesting to hear from a player.” We reminded him that no moves are made without the approval of this club. That is the reality.

“We said it wasn’t a done deal because this is the most important club.” This club will make decisions about your future as players, not the other way around. I believe it is appropriate to inform our fans of the truth.”

Despite Dyche’s explicit statement that it was up to the club whether Gray was allowed to depart, the Toffees appear to have made another U-turn and have now allowed him to leave.

The Saudi Pro League’s transfer window closes today, but Gray’s switch is unlikely to fail because the unveiling is the final piece of the puzzle.
