‘Unfortunate,’ says journalist, as Aston Villa player gets called up for international duty.

Pau Torres’ Spain call-up was ‘unfortunate’ given Aston Villa’s terrible form; he must learn from Unai Emery.

We’re thrilled to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa blogger; each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the club’s most pressing issues…

According to Dan Bardell, it is “unfortunate” that new Aston Villa acquisition Pau Torres has been called up for international service.

The Spaniard arrived to Villa Park with great expectations after impressing for La Liga club Villarreal, but has struggled in a couple of appearances in claret and blue. Despite this, he was named to Luis de la Fuente’s national team to face Cyprus and Georgia in Euro 2024 qualifications.

Torres was chastised after Villa’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Saturday, for losing the ball to Mohamed Salah to concede the corner that led to Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener and entirely lost Darwin Nunez in the build-up to their second.

While having a group full of full international players is undoubtedly advantageous, Bardell believes Torres’ call-up has come at a “unfortunate” time since he may benefit from learning more from Unai Emery to strengthen his capacity to function in the squad.

“It’s unfortunate that Pau Torres has been called up for the Spain squad,” Bardell stated exclusively to Villa News.

“It would have been beneficial for Emery to work with him during the international break.”

In other Aston Villa news, a new acquisition is set to make his debut for the club following an outstanding cameo against Liverpool.
