According to reports, one Tottenham player was nominated to Europe’s top eleven in August.
Whoscored has selected the best eleven players from Europe’s top five leagues for August, with Cristian Romero the only Tottenham player to make the list.
Romero’s performances for much of last season, particularly in the second half of the season following the World Cup, were mixed, with the Argentine drawing harsh criticism from Spurs fans.
In an interview with The Athletic over the summer, the 25-year-old stated that his performances last season fell short of the standards he sets for himself, and pledged to put that behind him and focus on presenting the best of himself this season, which he has done thus far.

Romero has been named vice-captain of Tottenham Hotspur by Ange Postecoglou, and the centre-back appears to have developed with the added responsibility.Not only has he been a rock at the back, but he has also scored two crucial goals, including a tremendous strike into the top corner in Tottenham’s triumph over Burnley last Saturday.
Romero is one of Europe’s top defenders.
Whoscored has given the Spurs defender a 7.47 out of 10 rating.
“Ange Postecoglu has started his reign at Tottenham positively, and it all started when Romero scored the first league goal of Spurs’ Premier League campaign,” the outlet reported of Romero.
“The 25-year-old was solid at the back throughout the month, recording 10 tackles, interceptions, and clearances for a WhoScored rating of 7.47.”
