“When you lose” – Controversial 25-year-old guy relieved to have quit Leeds United following relegation woes
Max Wöber, a Leeds United defender, burnt his bridges at Elland Road with a loan transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, and he has no plans to return in 2024.
Following relegation, the Whites sanctioned a large number of loan departures during the summer window in order to save money on salaries in 23/24
Such transitory departures did little to help the players retain solid ties with the public that backed their poor performances leading up to their relegation in May.
Max Wöber takes a stand.
One of the loan moves that left a sour taste in the mouth was Max Wöber’s to Borussia Monchengladbach, after he allegedly told the club that he wanted to stay in the Championship.
His priorities switched as soon as an offer arrived, and he has now spoken up about his decision to do so in the summer.
He told Austrian site Laola1 that it’s wonderful not to have to worry about relegation:
“You can go back to the court and enjoy it without worrying about what happens at the table if you lose on the weekend.”
In terms of his prospects for the future, he added:
“I’m in Gladbach for a year now; I’m completely focused on it and will put everything into it.” I don’t want to be concerned about how it will seem in the summer.”
Given that you were one of the reasons we were relegated, it’s wonderful to know you’re now stress-free.
He was part of the shambolic defense that was humiliated when Spurs scored 4-1 to seal our relegation, and he’s now content to kick his feet up and enjoy new pastures.
It’s astounding that Wöber has no idea that it was up to him and the players to prevent relegation, rather than something that occurred to him.
Goodbye, terrible attitude – and not even a match for our current defensive alliance.
