The delay is not what the fans “want to hear” – Ashley Young

Ashley Young admits to the Everton takeover live on talkSPORT.


Ashley Young has made an admission about 777 Partners’ proposed Everton acquisition after it was revealed that the deal could take some time to complete.

On talkSPORT on 14 September (09:03am), the Toffees defender stated that the delay is not what the fans “want to hear” as Farhad Moshiri attempts to complete a sale to a US investment firm.

However, the 38-year-old noted that all the players can do is focus on the game and hope that the takeover would “run smoothly” and the process will be “easy” for the club.

“It isn’t what the fans want to hear,” Young explained. “But we as players have to focus on what happens on the field; that’s all we can worry about and just hope everything runs smoothly and the process is simple for the club.”

“And, as I’ve said before, as players, all we have to do is go out there and produce on the field.”

He has no influence over the situation.

Young’s statement that the players’ concentration must be on matters on the field because the situation is beyond their control would come as no surprise.

What they can do is perform to the best of their abilities in order to assist Everton pick up some points in the coming weeks and enhance the environment around the club.

The players, like the supporters, will not want months of uncertainty about whether or not a takeover will occur since it might be unpleasant.

However, this appears to be the case as issues regarding 777 Partners’ finances and whether the company is suitable to take over a Premier League club have been raised.

Young, for one, will seek to use all of his knowledge in the game to assist the Blues improve their fortunes this season and avoid another relegation battle.
