Ashley Young discusses Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness.

Everton defender Ashley Young claims Dominic Calvert-Lewin might make a comeback against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday (17 September).

The newcomer at Goodison Park expressed his “optimistic” outlook, however he added that any decision will still be dependent on what the club’s doctors and physios say regarding his fitness.

Calvert-Lewin has been plagued by injuries recently, and it appeared like there was a light at the end of the tunnel when he returned against Aston Villa in the 4-0 defeat before being pulled off with yet another setback, this time with a facial injury.

Young stated live on talkSPORT on September 14th, “I think he should be back; hopefully we’ll have him back this weekend.” It all relies on what the doctors and physiotherapists say.”

I’m hoping for a good return to the team.

Calvert-Lewin will be looking to finally put his string of injury problems behind him if he makes his return against Arsenal. He has appeared in only one Premier League game this season, being forced off with an injury after taking a blow to the face.

His latest ailment followed a long-term hamstring injury that kept him out until the end of last season, but his statements from pre-season training showed he had been working hard throughout the summer to make a successful recovery.

Everton prioritized the acquisition of a new striker throughout the transfer window, and were eventually able to bring in Beto from Udinese as well as Youssef Chermiti from Sporting CP, both of whom will be hoping to challenge Calvert-Lewin’s position.

After a solid performance against Sheffield United and scoring in the Carabao Cup on his Everton debut against Doncaster Rovers, Beto has been tipped to replace the former England international in the side.

In other Everton news, one transfer move has been described as “bizarre” by an unknown agency.
