BBC;’Inevitability’ – Alan Shearer slams ‘ridiculous’ Everton amid…

According to Alan Shearer, Everton “desperately” needs a takeover to prevent the “inevitability” of relegation.

Shearer lambasted Farhad Moshiri and the Toffees’ “ridiculous” expenditure on “bang-average” players over the last few seasons on The Rest Is Football Podcast (14 September), suggesting “there’s only so long” Everton can go without a takeover.

Despite the fact that 777 Partners’ purchase of the club is proceeding, Shearer believes that a takeover “of some sort” is necessary for the club’s safety.

“Something desperately needs to happen,” Shearer remarked. ‘Help, we really need help,’ Everton fans must be thinking.

“At the moment, there’s only so long you can keep surviving, which is what Everton have been doing for a while now, and the ridiculous amounts of money that’s been spent on bang-average players over the years.”

“You have to believe that a lot of money has gone missing in terms of agent fees, transfers, and so on.” Everton, on the other hand, has been existing for so long with no identity, structure, or plan.

“A takeover of some kind cannot come soon enough for Everton fans.” If the current trend continues, they will be relegated. You have no idea what will happen to the football club.”

Damning

Shearer was ruthless in his criticism of Everton’s hierarchy, claiming they are putting the club on a one-way trip to extinction.

A potential takeover could be on the horizon, but after MSP Sports Capital’s failed effort to purchase a 25% stake in the club, Moshiri has moved to 777 Partners, who are fraught with questions.

According to The Telegraph (12 September), UK government officials in Whitehall are concerned about the takeover, noting 777’s “allegations of fraud, offering illegal loans, and failing to pay bills totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars” as a major impediment to the move.

For years, the Toffees have been walking a tightrope. Last season, Merseyside narrowly avoided relegation, with only two points separating 17th-place Everton and 18th-place Leicester City.

There is nothing to be joyful about financially. Years of “bang-average” spending have resulted in little-to-no improvement on the field, prompting a hearing next month on potential violations of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulation.

Survival is critical for the Toffees again this season, but without a takeover, the club’s future may be jeopardized.
