Sean Dyche is rumored to be contemplating a second bid for Wilfried Gnonto.
It comes as a surprise that Wilfried Gnonto has stayed at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window of 2023/24.
Of course, the Italian international provided rare and much-needed rays of hope for Leeds United fans during a dark season that saw them relegated from the top division, and it was no surprise that he drew a lot of transfer interest.
Gnonto eventually stayed put, although not without a few problems.
The 19-year-old notoriously ruled himself out of contention last month after being given the ultimatum that a summer sale was out of the question, prompting Daniel Farke to temporarily remove him from first-team action.
Fortunately for Leeds, the matter has since been resolved, and Gnonto appears to be set to play a key role in the club’s push for Premier League promotion, but speculation has returned.
Everton’s most recent transfer target is Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto.
Everton have retained their interest in Gnonto’s services despite failing with multiple approaches during the summer, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, and are now arranging new negotiations.
The Toffees have recruited at the top of the pitch, but their spending has yet to pay off, as they sit eighth at the time of writing, having scored only twice and losing three of their first four games.
However, new ownership is on the way when Fahrad Moshiri decided to sell his 94% stake in the Merseyside club to American investment company 777 Partners, effectively ending his controversial tenure at Goodison Park.
Leeds will understandably be concerned, since Everton may just obtain the necessary monetary windfall to negotiate a trade in due course.
However, the source adds that Gnonto is now completely focused on assisting Leeds to leave the Championship as soon as possible, while the club is thought to be studying the idea of extending his contract – which still has four years remaining – in order to ward off interested parties.
According to reports, Everton are not the only team keeping an eye on the potential beyond the transfer season, with many unnamed Premier League and European mainland clubs also apparently interested.
Wilfried Gnonto will depart Leeds United this season.
While Leeds will undoubtedly sweat as suitors gather, it does not appear that Gnonto will seek greener pastures unless Leeds’ promotion push falters significantly.
He is a player who aspires and has the potential to play at the top of the English footballing pyramid, so you can assume that if Leeds aren’t in promotion contention come January, Gnonto’s chances of remaining will diminish.
But, in all honesty, it is unlikely to happen.
Plenty points to Leeds recovering from a slow start to life before long and truly taking off, and it would make little sense for Gnonto to leave in January if they are well in the promotion hunt–especially not to a side that could well be in a league below them next season.
Over the summer, Leeds also made their position plain. They held hard and adhered to their weapons even while the player himself was downing tools, so convincing them to part ways would be difficult.
