Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs close to return to management with Salford City

Ryan Giggs is on the brink of returning to management at Man Utd’s Class of ‘92-owned outfit Salford City following the abandonment of a domestic abuse retrial.

Giggs, who was cleared of the charges last month, is said to be ready to return to management if results at the League Two club do not improve, according to The Sun.

The former Wales manager stepped down as manager of the club in June 2022, after being charged with controlling and coercing his ex-partner Kate Greville from August 2017 to November 2020.

The trial of Greville ended in a hung jury in August 2022, after more than two and a half hours of deliberation.

In July, the charges of domestic abuse against Giggs were dropped, meaning a retrial was called off. Giggs had pleaded not guilty to the allegations, which also included attacking Kate’s sister Emma, and Judge Hilary Manley found him not guilty on all charges.

According to The Sun, Giggs could be set to replace Neil Wood as manager of Salford City, where he co-owns the club alongside fellow Class of ‘92 players Gary Neville and Phil Neville, as well as Nicky Butt and David Beckham, and Singaporean tycoon Peter Lim.

The Ammies are currently in 19th place in League Two, after a run of four defeats, but they are aiming to make the play-offs this season for the second time in a row, having finished seventh last season.

Durings’ time in charge of Wales from January 2018 to November 2020, he won 25 of his 25 games in charge, with a winningg Gig percentage of 48%. He was replaced as Wales manager by stand-in boss Rob Page, who has remained in charge since.
