Why is Che Adams playing for Southampton tonight rather than Leicester City?
Leicester City head to Southampton on Wednesday evening, where they will face Che Adams.
Che Adams may have started for Leicester City against Southampton tonight (Friday).
Instead, the striker from Leicester will wear red and white stripes against his “dream” club.
City had “four or five” opportunities to sign Adams between the ages of seven and sixteen, but never grabbed the opportunity.
Adams told The Guardian in 2019 about his tryouts at Leicester: “The first time would have been before Coventry, so under-8s, and it was until under-16s – that would have been my last go.” Leicester was the winner.

It was always a desire of mine to play for the nearest team to us.”

“I remember the day they released me at Coventry – it definitely leaves a mark, even though me and my family knew it was coming,” Adams said.”You get a sense of when someone doesn’t want you, when you’re being pushed away.” It was only disappointment, both in myself and in those who helped me get there.

“However, it either pushes you forward or knocks you back. It’s make or break at that age. You may either pursue an education or continue to excel in football. That’s exactly what I did.”

Adams grew up in Thurnby Lodge, which is about a 20-minute drive from the King Power Stadium, and he remembers his youth fondly.

“To be honest, I thought it was fine,” he recalls. “Everyone really knew each other, everyone knew what everyone did, and everyone has respect for each other.” That is still the case now.

“I think everyone who comes up says they had a difficult life, but I think it’s just normal.”
