Everton manager Sean Dyche is currently having a difficult time in command, and journalist Paul Brown has provided an update on his future at Goodison Park.
Is Everton manager Sean Dyche under pressure?
After the disastrous reign of Frank Lampard ended in January, the Englishman was tasked with leading the Blues out from the Premier League relegation zone. He did it on the final day of the season, albeit by the skin of his teeth, courtesy to a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Goodison Park.
Everton were expected to improve under Dyche in 2023/24, finishing in the middle of the table, but the season has started poorly. They suffered three consecutive defeats, against Fulham, Aston Villa, and Wolves, before drawing 2-2 away to Sheffield United in their most recent trip, earning their first point.
The Blues will face a quality and perhaps title-challenging Arsenal side on Sunday, followed by a trip to Brentford the following weekend, so they may struggle to pick up their first league win of the season. Dyche is certainly feeling the fire, but it’s unclear how much his job is under threat right now.

Brown discussed the difficulty of some of Everton’s future matchups with Give Me Sport, implying that consecutive defeats might truly put Dyche under pressure:
“I don’t think Sean Dyche or Everton get any easier because the next two games look quite daunting.” When many Everton fans saw the fixtures for the first few weeks of the season, they probably thought it was a bit of a soft start.
“They then lost three games in a row before drawing with Sheffield United.” That, I believe, puts some pressure on the manager. It’s entirely likely that neither of the next two will yield a positive result. This will put him under much more strain.”
There is no doubt that Dyche hasn’t had the impact that many Everton fans had hoped for so far, but he is still in the early stages of his employment, as he continues to integrate new arrivals and communicate his tactical ideas to the entire group.
The performances and results have certainly been inadequate, and this must improve sooner rather than later, but even if the Blues lose to Arsenal and Brentford in the following week, it would be surprising if the manager is still employed.
If Everton’s wait for a first victory continues for too long, the pressure will naturally mount, but he should be judged over the next few months, rather than a few games. There were improvements in the performance away at Sheffield United, and fans will be hoping that the performance at Bramall Lane foreshadowed a reversal in Dyche’s fortunes.
