TITLE-WINNER SNUBBED TOTTENHAM ‘IMMEDIATELY’ AND HAS ‘NO INTEREST’ IN MOVE
Dennis te Kloese, technical director of Feyenoord, maintains that when Tottenham Hotspur came calling, he ‘immediately’ turned them down.
Te Kloese tells ESPN that Arne Slot, the coach who led Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie title since 2017 and just their second in the twenty-first century, was’very near’ to taking over in North London before Tottenham Hotspur chose Ange Postecoglou.
Slot, on the other hand, was not the only player of Feyenoord’s title-winning squad who had fans in London.
Te Kloese has been the club’s technical director since 2022, and the resignation of Fabio Paratici in May paved the way for the 49-year-old to possibly join Slot at Tottenham’s space-age stadium.
Tottenham was interested in signing two Feyenoord players.
“Arne Slot was closer (than me to joining Tottenham),” Te Kloese tells ESPN. “I believe Slot was on the verge of joining Tottenham.” That is why we are relieved he is still alive. We also hope that his decision turns out good for him.
I truly hope that we will be in the same position next year package, since it would indicate that we had a successful year.
“I have no desire to work elsewhere.” Personally, I don’t think it’s a good moment to relocate,” Te Kloese says. “My family is just getting used to living in the Netherlands, even though the weather isn’t cooperating right now!”
“Of course, Tottenham’s interest is flattering. But I instantly said ‘no’ to the club.”
Tottenham Hotspur and Feyenoord remain unblemished.
Feyenoord have drew their previous two games, but they are still unblemished after five games. Tottenham, however, is yet to lose a game under Postecoglou, with Saturday’s remarkable comeback victory over Sheffield United making this Spurs’ greatest start to a league season since the World Cup, which is now sitting proudly in England’s trophy cabinet.
