Everton have yet to win a Premier League game in the 2023-24 season, despite a difficult start.

The Toffees have only picked up one point in their first five games, putting them in the relegation zone.

Following last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal, Sean Dyche said that he would have expected Everton to have more points by now – while knowing that the table does not lie.

The Blues’ early-season injury troubles have been a contributing factor to their dismal performance. The treatment table, on the other hand, is beginning to look healthier, and here’s a look at the current injury situation ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brentford.

Harrison, Jack

What happened: Since joining Everton on loan from Leeds United, the winger has failed to make an appearance. Harrison comes with a hip issue at the end of last season.

Jack Harrison joins Leeds United

What has been reported is that Harrison is now in squad training but will not play against Arsenal. Dyche stated during his pre-match press conference, “Jack will not be available this weekend.” He’s only recently returned to the field with the main group, having previously worked with the sports science team and the strength and conditioning side of things.”

Much will depend on if Harrison is deemed fit to play against Brentford. Dyche has historically erred on the side of caution.

Mr. Andre Gomes

What happened: The midfielder hasn’t played for Everton since the opening-day defeat to Fulham. Gomes was on loan at Lille last season.

What has been said: the Portuguese midfielder was linked with a move to Fenerbahce but did not complete his exit before the Turkish deadline last week. Dyche revealed that Gomes has had minor ailments and that he wants him to be fit. “I think it’s unlikely,” remarked the Blues manager. He’s had a string of misfortunes with minor injuries. He knows I want him to be in shape and be a part of what we’re doing.

“I think he’s a very good footballer, and he’s shown that over the years, so I think it’s unlikely, and I hope he’ll be here by the end of today.”

Mr. Seamus Coleman

What happened: The Everton captain has been out since the end of April, when he suffered a horrific knee injury in a 2-2 draw with Leicester City.

Coleman is currently back on the grass with the physios, according to reports. “When I say a couple of months, I mean a couple of months to be back playing and at it,” the Republic of Ireland captain stated in August. But I’ll be back with the team in the next six weeks or so, hopefully. That is where we are right now, although it is not a precise timeframe. It’s been a week-to-week affair, as I mentioned.

“I have met all of the targets and numbers that I need to meet so far.” Nowadays, with sports science behind it, they have all of your previous scores and you have to meet those scores before you’re given the green light to do certain things, but so far, everything is going as planned on the grass. There have been no setbacks or anything of the sort.”

October is a possible return date.

Dele
What happened: The midfielder underwent hip surgery in April, causing his loan stay with Besiktas to be cut short.

What has been said: Dele is yet to return to team training but is in a similar level of rehabilitation as Coleman. “Dele and Seamus are still a little bit away, but they’re on the grass with the physios, which is good, but they’re not working with us,” Dyche said last week.
