After the Everton deal, Stephen Warnock shared his thoughts on Beto.
Beto’s failure to be a clinical striker for Everton this season has cost the club a critical “focal point,” according to Stephen Warnock.

Speaking on BBC Football Focus live (23 September, 16:46), the analyst praised the Toffees’ ability to create opportunities this season but criticized the £26 million man’s lack of goal threat.

The former Udinese forward has yet to score in the Premier League this season, and Warnock has warned Everton that his performance must improve.

“They are a team that has been up and down this season,” Warnock added. They produced numerous chances against Fulham and Wolves, but they were unable to capitalize.

“When they bring in Beto, you suddenly think there’s something to build on.” I don’t think he’s clinical in any sense, but what he does provide is a focal point, but they have to be more than that, and it’s critical that they pick up points.”

Beto has only showed Everton supporters bright sparks and critical moments this season in the Premier League.

His League Cup goal against Doncaster Rovers shown that he is far from a write-off, but if Everton are to escape the relegation zone, the Portuguese striker must improve.

Despite their financial difficulties, Farhad Moshiri was able to pay a large amount for Beto following his 10-goal haul in Serie A last season. Due to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems, Sean Dyche will be looking to Beto to become more of a force in Everton’s front line.

There have been encouraging indicators in his first three games for his new club, but the statistics back up Warnock’s assertion that more is required.

According to FBRef, Beto has only scored 0.3 predicted goals in the Premier League this season, trailing Neal Maupay and even centre-back James Tarkowski. He has yet to register an on-target shot, whilst Villarreal loanee Arnaut Danjuma has blown him away with six on-target attempts.

In his defense, Beto has not played as much football as his Everton teammates, completing only 1.7 90s so far, and will need time to acclimate to the rugged Premier League.

He annoys opposing defenses and drags defenders away, providing shooting opportunities, but the early indicators are not promising.

In other Everton news, a key Toffees player is expected to retire from the club.
