Unai Emery, manager of Aston Villa, has explained why Alex Moreno was not present for the Premier League victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
Unai Emery has stated that Alex Moreno’s strange absence from Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over Chelsea was due to an injury.
Moreno, who was in the squad for the encounter against Legia Warsaw in midweek after a lengthy layoff with a hamstring injury, was not present at Stamford Bridge.
Villa have already had to do without the Spaniard for a while due to his lack of playing time this season. They’ll have to wait much longer now.
“Alex Moreno, his injury was really hard and he’s been better and better but he’s not feeling one hundred per cent comfortable to play,” Emery stated at Stamford Bridge.
“We decided to take a break for a few days, maybe a week, maybe two weeks, to work closely with him in the process of getting him ready to play.”
“Hopefully, he’ll be close to being back in the squad,” Emery said.
Fortunately for the Villans, seasoned full-back Lucas Digne has been doing an excellent job filling Moreno’s hole.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player was expected to leave Villa Park in the summer, but his form has restored Emery’s faith in him.
Digne has one goal and five assists in his eight games this season. Even if Moreno were fit, reclaiming his slot would be difficult.
